Hey everybody!
We've been making our way up the east coast for the last couple of weeks, and unlike Melbourne it's always hot here! So we're allowing ourselves to have a smoothie every few days, and they taste wonderful :)
In my last message I was getting ready for our bus trip to Sydney... and it was worse than I expected. 15 hours in the bus at night with one stop after 4 hours, and then nothing for the next 11! But we made it to Sydney and had a good long lie-in the next day :)
As I'm writing this I'm having a very big black out...completely forgotten what I did in Sydney, better bring my journal next time I write a message! Let's think.... mmmm well of course we saw the Sydney opera house and the harbour bridge. Always strange to see something for real after seeing loads of pics of it. But it looks pretty spectacular in real life too.
We saw a few movies, did a bit of shopping, went to the Chinese garden and lazed around in the botanical gardens. The Chinese garden was a beautiful quiet garden in the middle of the big city, and the botanical gardens had hundreds of bats hanging from the trees.
A trip to Sydney isn't complete without a day to famous Bondi Beach. So we checked that out too. The waves were enormous and the sun burning hot. Got a bit of a sunburn
:( but now I've got a nice tan :)
After Sydney we went on to Port Macquirie (only a 8 hours bus ride yeeeh :p) and had a go at body boarding, explored the town and went to the koala hospital.
On to Coffs Harbour next where went canoeing on the river with mangrove trees and tropical birds.
Our next stop was Byron Bay where we spent a few days. Byron is a relaxed beach town with lots of little shops and a great surfing beach. I had my very first surfing lesson here and I was standing after a few tries, and surfing all the way to the beach soon after. The surfing was great, can't wait to get back on the board again soon!
We went on a day trip from Byron Bay to Nimbin, a small hippy village in the hills. And when I say small, I mean really small. I'd expected more of it; we'd seen everything after 30 minutes. But it was a fun day anyway with swimming and a BBQ.
We've been in Brisbane for almost a week now, time is really flying by! Explored the city from the river on the City Cat ferry and had a great view from mount Coot-tha just outside the city.
On Thursday we leave for our next stop Noosa, where we'll go on a canoe safari.
We're hitting the 4 month mark on the 26th, and the halfway mark soon after. Time is flying by, but I still find it strange that I've been on the other side of the world for so long now.
Thanks again for all the messages, it's great to hear from you!
Ciao Ciao,
Laura

groet Trins
